As the festive season gets into full swing, its become almost as traditional as turkey and mince pies for retailers to launch their Christmas adverts for the seasonal campaigns. The video adverts will cross over many channels as retailers look to burrow into the psyche of consumers preparing for the big day. It basically started with John Lewis and their ‘The Bear and the Hare‘ advert back in 2013 but it could also be argued that Coca Cola really started things (albeit without realising) back in 1993 with their truck Christmas advert.
We are taking a quick look at some of the Christmas adverts that have been released this year by some of the retailers looking to ‘win Christmas’.

Our verdict – we like this, its got an epic feel to it and some warm and fuzzy moments too. We like the spin on Mrs Claus doing some of the work too.

Our verdict – we like Kevin the Carrot, its nice and simple with some nice little subtle moments in there. Its nice and short and sells the food range without being too ‘salesy’.

Our verdict – after last year’s ‘Man on the Moon’ advert missed the target with a lot of viewers they’ve gone back to tried and trusted animals to get the ‘aaaah’ factor. Its not bad but not quite The Bear and The Hare.

Our verdict – it’s waaaaay too long. It tries to tap into some Christmas cliches but doesn’t hit the spot at all. The song is annoying too.

Our verdict – following on from the style of last year’s advert it is a rehash of last year with a different song. Not very festive but visually impressive however not one that appeals to us.
These are just a selection of whats out there this year and no doubt everyone will have their own favourite. The Christmas adverts have almost become an event in themselves as they are launched on TV, on social media and in some cases even bring with them their own merchandise. Of all the Christmas adverts over the years, our personal favourite is probably one of the most simple. There aren’t detailed storylines or characters but just something that captures the excitement and build up to Christmas. This is our top choice for Christmas adverts both this year and in years gone by.
